Tax enforcement efforts are on the rise at the federal and state levels. The IRS has increased its focus on complex partnerships and highly technical areas of tax law, including the research and development (R&D) tax credit. Going through an IRS exam for the R&D tax credit can be burdensome for taxpayers so, during this webinar, our tax credits and tax controversy specialists will discuss how taxpayers can prepare ahead of an IRS exam and what to expect during an IRS exam.

We’ll talk through the increased focus on business component documentation requirements, the administrative challenges of managing an IRS exam, examples of technical uncertainties, and more.

Learning objectives:

  • Define the need for proper documentation and recommendations for maintaining documentation related to R&D activities.
  • Develop an understanding of the administrative burden of going through an IRS exam for the R&D tax credit.
  • Explore best practices for when you are subject to an IRS exam for the R&D tax credit.
