Healthcare leaders would be wise to take stock of where health equity stands at their organizations as CMS and OIG audits become more prevalent. Additionally individual payers are starting to focus on the health equity shown by providers, and providers will need to provide metrics and evidence of progress.
What has not been focused on is the algorithms in certain systems that providers utilize, and some of these algorithms may in fact propagate non-equity. There is a need in overall health equity strategies to address algorithms being used in patient care assessment.
